I WANT TO HELP

WAYS TO SERVE

Be a good neighbor – One of the biggest ways we can serve one another during this time is by following community recommendations.  Even during this time of social distancing, you can still check on your community through phone, texting, email, and video conferencing.  Now is an important time to pray for our community and our neighbors around the world.

Summer Camp Kits
Camp In The Community is a free day camp for children in poverty. CITC normally takes the summer camp experience into a community for one week, but this summer, they are sending Camp home for five weeks! It will take a ton of supplies to recreate summer camp in the homes of more than 1,000 campers, so we are helping them with an Amazon Wish List.

Encouragement for Susannah’s House MomsSusannah’s House continues to serve moms in recovery and their children each day. We would love to encourage them in their recovery journey by sending cards! Please mail a note of encouragement to: Susannah’s House, 923 Dameron Ave, Knoxville, TN 37921.

Phone Ministry – Our phone ministry enables us to reach out and stay connected to the hundreds of families we typically serve in person each month. Please sign up here if you are interested in serving.

CAC – Mobile Meals has resumed daily meal delivery. Call the Office on Aging at 865-524-2786 and ask for Mobile Meals.

CAC – Connecting Hearts program – focuses on isolated seniors with no support system. Donations of items such as tuna, soup, cereal, peanut butter, toilet paper, paper products, water, etc.

Volunteer East Tennessee has a variety of COVID-19 related serving opportunities.

United Way and Alliance for Better Nonprofits has created a COVID-19 fund to support organizations offering relief in our community.

I NEED HELP

Manna House – Manna House has Take Out food bags available for pick up on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, from 9 am to 11 am. Drive to the Manna House entrance at 9919 Kingston Pike and a volunteer will bring a bag to you.

Hope Connection is an outreach ministry to low-income families that seeks to build relationships that lead to financial stability and overall well-being. By first building a relationship, we are able to better understand each individual’s situation and focus on creating lasting change in their quality of life. Currently our process is being conducted over the phone.  Call our offices (693-0353) M-Th 8:30a-12:30p to schedule an appointment.

Community Resources – Tennessee 211 is a resource available to our community at any time, but is especially helpful during this time when resources are changing daily. When you call, you’ll get a real person, one who is trained to help you sort out your needs, and then give you phone numbers and addresses of the closest places where you can get help. Simply dial 211 in your phone to reach someone who can direct you.

PREVIOUS UPDATES FROM COKESBURY CHURCH

UPDATES 5/18/20

Summer Camp Kits
Camp In The Community is a free day camp for children in poverty. CITC normally takes the summer camp experience into a community for one week, but this summer, they are sending Camp home for five weeks! It will take a ton of supplies to recreate summer camp in the homes of more than 1,000 campers, so we are helping them with an Amazon Wish List.

Healthy Relationships
We have checked in with folks from the Cokesbury family to see how they are coping with quarantine. So far, we’ve talked to parents with young kids, parents of kids with special needs, and parents with teenagers at home. Don’t miss this Tuesday at 8 pm on Facebook! We’ll talk with Mark Beebe about maintaining healthy relationships in an anything-but-normal environment.

UPDATES 5/1/20

We’re sure you’re keeping tabs on the news, and you have heard that this weekend, you can dine-in at a restaurant, get your hair cut, and have the chance to touch that t-shirt before you buy it. One thing you won’t be able to do? Return to our buildings.

Not yet, anyway.

We want to be back together. But more than that, we want to continue loving you and loving our neighbors by maintaining social distance. And we just can’t do that in our worship and kids’ ministry spaces.

So we’ll continue worshiping online together. We’ll continue sharing mental health tips, ways to engage in service, and family game night ideas on social media. We’ll continue laughing and learning with our kids and students teams on video. Our groups will continue to meet virtually. Our staff team will remain available via phone call and email to join in ministry with you. Manna House will continue to operate our Take-Out services.
And newly available this week, Meeting Jesusa bible study facilitated by Charles Maynard. This New Testament study of the life of Jesus was offered last spring, and this encore version has been updated and optimized for use during quarantine. You can access all of the materials here.
We love you. We miss you. We can’t wait to be together again. Thank you for helping us love each other and our community!

New Sermon Series – There is so much going on–not only in our community, but also in our world. Sometimes we can feel completely overwhelmed by it all. Join us as we begin a special series this weekend that explores how to have a faith in uncertain times.

IMPORTANT UPDATES (3/13/2020)

Part of our purpose as a church is to be a leader in our community. In order to be a role model during this season, we will not be gathering for in-person services and programming for the next two weeks, beginning March 15th.

However, worship services will be offered online. Please join us at 10 am Sundays and 7 pm Thursdays for worship online. Also, please make sure you connect with us on social media so you can stay up-to-date. We’re on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram

While these may feel like uncertain times, we are called to “fear not”. We need to be responsible, love our community, and care for one another. During this time:

  • We will love our neighbors by protecting our neighbors.
  • We will stay in touch with each other and keep growing in our faith.
  • We will keep the faith and trust God!
